Don's Blog North to Victoria Island - The Nakyoktok River I

After Baillie Bay we sailed north to southern coast of Victoria Island across Coronation Gulf.

We anchored in Johanson Bay at the mouth of the Nakyoktok River, site of an abandoned DEW line station. 

The river basin offers an exceptional tundra area to hike and explore. 

 What looked like a starkly desolate area offered a trove of tundra treasures.

This area is a fertile hunting site with resultant bones including this caribou. 

There were also multiple long bones and even a small mandible.
