Flower for the Day Amaryllis 2-21-25

These bulbs are over 20 years old and keep producing each February.
They summer in the side yard and winter behind the furnace. All they need then is water and light.

There are 5 blooms this year.

Amazing blossoms.

With rich color.

The blooms keep re-enchanting my imagination
As they unfurl petals like the woman of chayil
Facing the future and all its dire prognostications
With hands outstretched and kindness on her tongue.
They bloom so bravely in the window there,
Orange and white streaked satin petals,
Crimpèd edges, curling back like unclenched fists,
Their hearts of streaky green and apple seeds
Laid bare before a world that deals not often kindly
With bare hearts. Before their valiant candor
My own armored, fainting heart beholds its poverty
And sighs.

Don's Blog "Conversations for Action" 2-19-25

Here is my editorial from Missouri Medicine from December of 1990. I had just finished a course
that addressed practical linguistics. The editorial is dense but it reveals the complexity of verbal interactions.

Breaking down linguistic interactions such as requests and promises can produce new understanding but actually performing these speech acts takes training and time. Then and now still the most powerful aspect in the conversational dance is that the  speaker and the hearer have clarity on the conditions of satisfaction.

Don's Blog The Art of Jan Sessions

The artist, Jan sessions, works in multimedia. Here is an untitled work
in canvass and fabric with fabric dolls. What was she thinking?

Don's Blog "So Much For The Living Will" 2-12-25

Here is my editorial from Missouri Medicine dated November, 1990. Probably just
as important in the  process is the official naming of a health care surrogate who has the power to
speak your wishes if you are unable to do it.

Don's Blog The Art of Jan Sessions 2-6-25

Here is one of my favorites. It is "Whiteout" - acrylic on canvass.
Its 3-D effect demands that you interact with it and then again.
