I have had red hot poker plants (Kniphofia) for years in many areas of my gardens. Now they are on the edge of the meadow. They are in a genus of perennial flowering plants in the family Asphodelaceae, first described in 1794. Common names also include tritons and torch lily. The flowers provide copious nectar.
