Flower for the Day Joe Pye Weed 8-5-2020

In my central wildflower garden Joe Pye Weed (Eutrochium purpureum) is now blooming. It grows on a stem which is over my head and has multiple blooms.

In case you wondered,  Joe Pye reportedly was a Mohican sachem named Schauquethqueat who lived in the mission town of Stockbridge, Massachusetts from c. 1740 to c. 1785 and who took as his Christian name, Joseph Pye.

Joe Pie Weed attracts butterflies.  We have had multiple swallow-tail butterflies and yesterday we saw our first monarch. In these times of dire predictions it is always comforting to see one.
