Flower for the Day Bluets 3-31-2020

The other day I was in the pasture behind our neighbors house next door. Our neighbor was Russel Kraus who asked Frank Lloyd Wright to design a 'little' Usonian house for him and his wife Ruth. They are both long gone but the house is thriving in what is now  Ebsworth St Louis County Park. 

The field is awash with miniature flowers.

These tiny flowers are magnificent.

They are bluets (Houstonia cerulean) which are also called azure bluets or Quaker Ladies. It is a perennial

in the family Rubiaceae. The flower head has pale blue petals with a yellow center and is about 1 cm across. It grows especially well among the grasses of the field.
