Flower for the Day A Ginger Problem 10-28-17

About a year and a half ago some friends from Honolulu gave us several  small
ginger plants in a plastic bag. I dutifully planted them in several plastic containers and
some small green shoots emerged. Fall came so I moved them into the basement and
watered them all winter. They did grow greener and taller so I moved them out again in the spring.
All summer they have gotten a little taller as we waited for them to bloom.
Nothing happened so we both thought it was time to let them go. Nobody spoke for them so I was
going to leave them out in tonights first hard freeze.
So what happened this morning? They started to bloom.

So what did I do?

You guessed it. I have brought them inside for the winter. I'm a sucker for a blooming plant.
