These are some of the amazing flowers along the Jean Lunning Trail by Long Lake in the Indian Peaks Area.

Don's Blog 8-17

Jan and I spent the day at Brainard Lake and Long Lake in the Indian Peaks Area. After a short hike with some spectacular flowers we came upon this moose with a huge rack in the velvet. He was eating lunch but as you can see he was also keeping his eye on us. He did not stop eating the whole time.

On further review

A friend has pointed out that the "delphinium" is really monks head (aconitum). Also known as wolfsbane it has been recently used in the Harry Potter series as a potion that allow maintenance of rationality after someone has been transformed into a wolf.

This delphinium was by the trail as Jan and I walked with our friend Sunshine in Rocky Mountain National Park. We are spending several weeks in Estes Park with family and friends.

Flowers for the Day 8-3-15

Since I have been in the north the flowers have continued to bloom in my gardens with some rain and a lot of heat.

These are new blooms on a gladiolus plant with many more to come.

The naked lady surprise lilies (Lycoris squamigera) have begun to bloom.

This is a bloom on an ironweed (Vernonia altissima) plant.

Blazing Star (Liatris) has multiplied in the wildflower garden.

Since I have more than 600 images including many flowers from the north they will have to come out

very slowly as we are headed for Colorado tomorrow.

Back from the North 7-31-15

I'm back from my trip to Greenland. This is one of many ice bergs we dodged

off the east coast of Greenland. The weather was superb - mainly in the 40's 

and 50's with minimal rain. More later as I'm slightly wasted today.
