These seed pods are really great and hang around for more than a month. The 

blackberry lily which is in the iris family re-seeds itself very successfully. Come by

and help yourself to some at the end of the driveway.

These showy little annual flowers are growing at the edge of the field. I usually have them in containers where they get more regular watering. As a result they are smaller than usual but still fun.

These asters are growing six feet tall in the wildflower garden. Bumble bees are 

extraordinarily busy at this time of the year.

Victorian era. It is an annual and I collect its seeds in the late fall.

Drought conditions have had no effect on the ubiquitous goldenrod (Solidago). In the aster family, this flowering plant has come up everywhere in the sunny rooms of the wild flower garden.

Flower for the Day 9-24 Chrysanthemum

The second half of the year has been brutal on the garden. Heat, drought, deer, and rabbits have been winning over the Flower Guy. These measly mums are all that is left of my perennial Chrysanthemums. They are pretty little flowers but pale in comparison to last year.

But as Chicago Cub fans are used to saying, "Wait 'til next year".
